Job Summary

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will actively interface with software developers, product managers, test engineers, and administrators on projects to design and develop the build, release, and deploy toolchain for DevOps while providing on-call support. You should be able to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and effectively, sometimes under pressure. Responsibilities include capacity planning, high availability engineering, performance tuning, and automation/tools development. You should have good leadership skills, experience managing infrastructure through multiple product releases, and have a passion for reliability and security.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead the design and management of highly available, scalable Kubernetes infrastructure using Amazon EKS;
• Implement and manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform and Terragrunt;
• Champion a Git-first approach to infrastructure and CI/CD automation;
• Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using Harness to streamline application delivery across environments;
• Drive infrastructure automation and environment consistency across development, staging, and production;
• Design and implement monitoring and observability solutions using New Relic, ensuring performance visibility and uptime;
• Securely manage secrets using AWS Secrets Manager;
• Support production systems through incident management, root cause analysis, and proactive reliability improvements;
• Collaborate with engineering and security teams to define best practices for deployment, security, and scalability;
• Mentor and guide junior DevOps team members and developers in adopting modern infrastructure practices.

Essential Skills

• Experience with DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering role supporting cloud-native applications;
• Extensive experience with Kubernetes (EKS), including Helm, networking, and security;
• Deep proficiency in Terraform and Terragrunt for AWS infrastructure provisioning;
• Proven expertise building pipelines with Harness, Git, and associated CI/CD tooling;
• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python or Golang;
• Solid understanding of AWS services: EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, VPC, Route53, CloudWatch, etc;
• Proficient with Linux systems, including performance tuning and troubleshooting;
• Deep knowledge of networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS, HTTP/S, Load Balancing;
• Experience with Ansible for configuration and provisioning;
• Working knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL;
• Strong experience in monitoring, logging, and alerting, particularly using New Relic;
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other pub/sub systems is a plus;
• Demonstrated ability to support and troubleshoot distributed products.

Qualifications

• In cloud-native application migrations following standards
• Expertise in AWS (EC2, ASG, ALB/NLB/WAF, Route53, Transit Gateway, Lambda, EKS, ECS, etc.)
• Advanced Terraform proficiency
• Kubernetes and EKS administration, Helm chart development, and container orchestration
• 3+ years of experience with Jenkins pipelines and shared libraries
• Strong grasp of distributed systems fundamentals: service discovery, monitoring, scheduling, load balancing
• Familiarity with APM and log aggregation tools, including integration and configuration
• Debug, optimize, and automate code and infrastructure

The DevOps Engineer provides technical leadership, change, consulting and subject matter expertise across multiple technologies and practices to meet customer requirements for rapid service delivery, reliability, and innovation. The role works collaboratively with key stakeholders, vendor representatives, and other IT teams/experts to deliver complex and innovative solutions in alignment with WEX strategy and architecture. Actively contribute to and guide innovation in DevOps practices and incorporate agile delivery approaches and technologies that assist with developing and delivering high-quality software.

Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to promote and support the adoption of technologies that will automate, optimize and modernize the delivery of platforms and services.

Promote and advocate changes to software engineering and operations with the adoption of new technologies that benefit the delivery of automated, highly scalable systems.

Deliver technical consulting and subject matter expertise to technological solution projects, including pre-project, to ensure risks, interdependencies and exceptions are identified, mitigated or escalated, and solutions are formulated in alignment with Wex strategy and architecture.

Develop high level options, conceptual approaches, technical recommendations and estimates to support the transition of system designs into operation.

Improve services level by implementing performance management strategies, robust configuration management practices and automated processes.

Strong understanding of software technologies and software patterns.

Expert knowledge and experience in one or more development languages (Java, .Net, Go)

What you’ll do for us

Design and implement deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Gitlab, Ansible, Puppet, or similar to automate building, testing, and deployment processes

Manage and maintain the infrastructure for deployment pipelines, including servers, databases, load balancers, and other resources

Monitor the performance of applications deployed in production environments and troubleshoot any issues that arise

Ensure the security and compliance of the deployment process and applications, including implementing security measures such as SSL certificates, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems

Collaborate with developers to understand requirements, ensure alignment with the development process, and support successful deployment

What you’ll have

5+ years of experience in a deployment role Masters Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management OR 7+ years of experience in a deployment role with a Bachelor’s degree.

Certification in any of the following: AWS, Azure, GCP or K8

Experience deploying and maintaining applications in any one of the clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Experience with cloud-based environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

Experience with Dockers or similar and experience with Kubernetes or similar

Strong technical skills in automation, continuous integration, and deployment practices

Working knowledge with Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, etc.

Administration of databases (MS SQL, Mongo)

Working knowledge with Linux and Windows operating systems
