We are hiring a System Software Engineer for Ubuntu Networking to focus on the connectivity of Ubuntu in a wide range of circumstances, from cloud to server to desktop and IoT. We would like to strengthen the tooling, services, documentation, robustness, security and clarity of Linux network abstractions to provide fast, reliable and secure connections for Ubuntu.
The network stack is one of the most critical aspects of any operating system where stability, reliability and uptime are paramount. Its ease of use and reliability contribute to Ubuntu's success from IoT, Desktop, Server to the Cloud. We are expanding our Foundations team to focus our efforts on this essential function and are looking for people passionate about lower level technologies involved in an operating system's network stack.
As a Linux System Engineer, you will maintain and integrate core components involved in the network stack of the Ubuntu Distribution. You will be discussing design with other team members, upstream projects, mentor less senior engineers and participate in code reviews and design reviews. You will also be working with other teams to ensure architecture decisions improve the overall performance and experience of Ubuntu.
Location: This role will be based remotely in the AMERICAS region

What we are looking for in you
- Deep understanding and passion for Linux networking, from kernel to user space
- Professional experience with computer networks, including virtual networks, distributed systems as well as understanding of hardware offloading technologies.
- Interest in systemd-networkd, NetworkManager, ModemManager, iwd, conman, bluez, iproute2, Open vSwitch, WireGuard and similar software components
- Fluency in at least one of Golang, C/C++, Rust or Python
- Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
- Interest in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu
- Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path

Applicants will be comfortable discussing bridges, bonds, routing, DNS resolution and other technologies used to interconnect modern operating systems. We'll work with a very wide range of upstream components and communities covering a wide range of connectivity tech. We might touch the kernel, iwd, networkmanager, wpa_supplicant, bluetooth stacks, conman, mobile data stacks, ethernet, infiniband, network virtualisation capabilities, VPNs and offload to smartnics. We model Ubuntu connectivity with Netplan and will continue to drive this forward as the easiest and most effective central tool to enable connectivity everywhere.

Software has moved to play a central role in network technology. We work with networking silicon providers to optimize Ubuntu and related applications for their ASICs, boards and appliances. We aim to provide a complete open source stack for data center networking, from bare metal through virtualization, container and serverless, and also to address IoT networking systematically.
You will have a good chance of success if you are an outstanding software engineer, passionate about networking, with a special interest in the interface of hardware ASICs for acceleration and software for innovation and control. We value experience in open switch initiatives such as SoNIC and DENT, and upstream experience with components such as routing, kernel networking, eBPF, DNS, firewalls and load balancers. Our selection process is rigorous and requires work from the candidate as six to eight interviews over a period of months. We look for excellent academic results and a commitment to quality, resilience, documentation, security and performance in your work.

Job Overview

Responsibilities- Handle escalations from Level 2 engineers.
- Perform advanced Azure tasks: resource setup, policies, security, scripting, automation.
- Support enterprise networking: firewalls, routing, VPNs, VoIP optimization.
- Mentor Level 1-2 engineers, ensuring best practices.
- Document escalations, infra changes, and project work.
- Contribute to migrations and enterprise initiatives.
- 5+ years as a senior IT engineer / Level 3 in MSP or enterprise.
- Strong Azure expertise (resources, policies, automation).
- Advanced networking (firewalls, routing, VoIP troubleshooting).
- Active Directory, Windows Server, Microsoft 365.
- Excellent English for client-facing support.
- Bonus: Mac support, ConnectWise/Datto familiarity.
- Weekdays: Noon-8pm CST
- One weekend day: 8am-5pm CST
- Days off: One weekday + one weekend day (2 total)

Job Title: Senior Network Engineer (Remote – U.S. Business Hours)
Project Summary:
We’re partnering with a major brand on a large-scale network deployment involving approximately 500 sites, running through the end of 2025. We’re seeking skilled and independent Senior Network Engineers to join a compact, high-performing team (3–4 members). This position is fully remote and will focus on providing real-time support for the installation and troubleshooting of network systems, mainly across hotel properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver remote technical support during the installation of Mikrotik gateways and other networking equipment.
- Coordinate with onsite installation teams, local service providers (LSPs), hotel staff, and the broader tech team.
- Troubleshoot escalated issues, address real-time configuration queries, and resolve network-related problems.
- Offer expert-level guidance on routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.
- Ensure smooth deployment and integration across various networking environments and hardware.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering with the ability to work autonomously after initial onboarding.
- Strong proficiency with Mikrotik equipment and working knowledge of at least one of the following:
- Ruckus, Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Palo Alto, Nomadix, Antlabs, or Ubiquiti.
- Deep understanding of RADIUS protocol and core networking components, including SD-WAN, LAN/WAN/WLAN, and cloud infrastructures.
- Experience working in both public and private cloud environments.
- CCNP certification is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
- Comfortable engaging with clients and vendors via Zoom, phone, and email.
- Must be available during standard U.S. business hours (preferably in Eastern or Central Time Zones).
- LATAM-based candidates are welcome if they can fully align with U.S. time zone requirements.

About This Opportunity
Join our lean and dynamic NOC team as a NOC Technician, where you will play a key role in maintaining the operational excellence of our network. This position is ideal for someone with a basic understanding of networking concepts and a strong willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, 24/7/365 environment. As part of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring alerts, managing emails and tickets, and escalating issues to ensure continuous network performance.
Given the lean nature of our NOC, flexibility is crucial. While your primary schedule will be 9 AM to 6 PM US Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, you must be open to shift changes and occasional late-night deployments to support live monitoring of our network resources during those deployments.
Responsibilities
- Monitor network alerts using tools such as Solar Winds, Thousand Eyes, Pingdom, or Splunk.
- Respond to emails and manage tickets in ServiceNow ITSM.
- Escalate issues to more experienced team members when necessary.
- Participate in shift changes and late-night deployments as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure continuous network operations and quick resolution of incidents.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in a networking or IT support role.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, VPN, routing).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and ticket management systems (ServiceNow experience is a plus).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experi- ence preferred.
- CCNA or other entry-level networking certifications are a plus.
- Experience with AVI and F5 load balancers.
- Familiarity with Cisco and Palo Alto network devices.
- Knowledge of Itential automation tools and Ansible.
- Experience with network monitoring tools such as Solar Winds, Thousand Eyes, Pingdom, or Splunk.
