Job Purpose:
The Data Architect will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data models and SQL-based solutions, with a focus on Google Cloud Platform. This role will ensure data integrity, optimize database performance, and support data-driven initiatives, particularly within the higher education sector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Modelling and SQL Development
- Design and implement scalable and efficient relational and dimensional data models.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across various data sources and reporting layers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Expertise
- Utilize GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud SQL, and Dataflow for data storage, processing, and analysis.
- Implement and manage cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes on GCP.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions for GCP data environments using tools like Terraform.
- Monitor and optimize GCP resource performance and cost for data platforms.
Collaboration and Communication
- Serve as a primary liaison among business leads, product managers, and data/engineering teams.
- Facilitate demos, knowledge-sharing sessions, and best-practice documentation for data solutions.
- Promote adoption of new data capabilities and practices; gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Release and Change Management
- Coordinate release plans, timelines, and stakeholder readiness for data model and SQL deployments.
- Ensure training, job aids, and rollout communications are prepared and delivered for data solutions.
- Track post-release issues, adoption, and stabilization metrics related to data platforms.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Basic Qualifications

- Deliver on-site technical assessments with partners and customers. This includes participating in pre-sales visits, understanding customer requirements, creating packaged Data & Analytics service offerings.
- Engaging with the customer's business and technology stakeholders to create a compelling vision of a data-driven enterprise in their environment. Create new artifacts that promotes code reuse.
- Collaborate with AWS field sales, pre-sales, training and support teams to help partners and customers learn and use AWS services such as Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Amazon EMR and Amazon Redshift.
Since this is a customer facing role, you might be required to travel to client locations and deliver professional services when needed, up to 50%.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture and implementation, preferably with AWS
- 5+ years of database (eg. SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis) experience
- 5+ Experience delivering cloud projects or cloud based solutions
- Able to communicate effectively in English, within technical and business settings.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of external or internal customer facing, complex and large scale project management experience
- Proficiency in a wide range of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation)
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Terraform, Python)
- Expertise in performance optimization and cost management for cloud environments
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- AWS Professional level certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional) preferred

**Summary**
We're looking for a visionary Principal Development Architect to join SAP's Business Data Cloud Technology Office - a central team driving the future of SAP's data management strategy. This is a high-impact, cross-organizational role where you'll help define the architecture of our next-generation cloud services, influencing product direction across SAP and shaping how data powers intelligent enterprise solutions.
You'll work alongside some of the most experienced architects in the industry, helping to build the backbone of SAP's platform and product portfolio.
**What you'll do**
+ In addition to defining the general and future architecture for the BDC&I cloud platform & service, you will get to work first-hand with leading edge technologies.
+ You will directly collaborate with internal stakeholders and business partners to understand scenarios and needs, align concepts & ideas within the unit and across SAP.
+ With this you will contribute to pave the way for the development teams to adopt the concepts by also creating and developing required organizational and process networks within the development in conjunction with product management.
+ Since you will be acting as a spearhead of our development organization you will embed in and also have the task to drive and align architecture topics across the entire company along the central architecture alignment board of SAP.
+ You will work in a diverse & distributed team, driving architecture and technology strategy into actual project work and execution, together with the SAP BDC&I and LoB development organizations.
+ As the success of the new Business Data Cloud Service heavily relays on the delivery of Data Products by the LoBs, you will also contribute to foster LoB adoption.
+ This opportunity is an ideal role for an enterprise customer thinking, very focused and ambitious individual who can work in a highly flexible environment with some of the most skilled and experienced professionals in the industry.
**What you bring**
+ Desire to work on the leading edge of cloud-based platform, analytics, data management and Data Integration technologies including the emerging Lakehouse architectures / data fabric topics
+ To support our Lakehouse architecture, you ideally demonstrate your experience in Spark and Object Store technologies
+ Ideally deeper knowledge and experience in LoB specific data platform development projects
+ Track record of quickly adapting to new environments, balancing tradeoffs, and demonstrating flexible, pragmatic, and long-term thinking
+ Leverage AI technologies for data management and analytics as well as contribution to technical building blocks which enable SAPs global Business AI
+ Profound experience in data integration technologies (SAP data, non-SAP data, data lakes) and enterprise applications
+ Established record of accomplishments as an architect with analytics and data management engineering teams
+ Ideally deeper knowledge and a track record in leading data warehousing projects as an architect and leader
+ Practical experience with operating Cloud-scale services in production and working on topics around scaling and resilience
+ Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
+ Excellent communication skills, proven inter-personal and leadership skills to drive product- & technology-related discussions internally & externally
+ Ability to communicate and influence effectively at C suite and above
