We are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is an opportunity for an "automation-first" technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive the success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. If you have experience of IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code and a passion for technology, then you will enjoy working with some of the best people in the industry at Canonical.

Job Summary

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services. The team is in charge of running services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As an SRE & Gitops engineer you'll be in a unique position to drive operations automation to the next level, both in our own private clouds as well as in the public clouds. We do this by utilizing the best of open source infrastructure as code software, software development practices such as CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's leading products for software operation automation.

In addition to defining the infrastructure as code, you will improve Canonical products and the open-source technologies they're based on by providing critical feedback to developers on how their products operate at scale. This is done by submitting bugs (and sometimes writing pull requests) and collaborating on design and implementations with other teams within the company.

You'll be part of a global team of SREs that work together and support each other to provide the best possible services to our company, Canonical's customers and the Ubuntu Community.

Location : This role is available remotely in any timezone.

As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer engineer you will

  • Apply your experience of IaC to develop infrastructure as code practice within IS by constantly increasing automation and improving IaC processes
  • Automate software operations for re-usability and consistency across private and public clouds, taking into consideration the complexities of distributed systems
  • Develop new features and improve the resilience and scalability of the existing cloud and container portfolio at Canonical
  • Maintain operational responsibility for all of Canonical's core services, networks, and infrastructure
  • Develop skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation, Setting up, maintaining and using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch; design, implement and maintain monitoring and alerting for various systems and services
  • Collaborate with development teams to design service architecture, documentation, playbooks, policies and operational procedures
  • Provide assistance and work with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers
  • Be given uninterrupted development time to focus on larger projects and automation of manual tasks
  • Share your experience, know-how and best practices with other team members in design sessions, mentorship and 'doing work together'
  • Carry final responsibility for time-critical escalations

What we are looking for in you

  • A deep experience of, and knowledge to define operations in code, using version control, peer review and CI/CD to roll out changes both to applications and infrastructure
  • Strong modern engineering background (peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile)
  • Python software development experience, with large projects
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls
  • Affinity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to Databases
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies
  • Bachelor's degree or greater, preferably in computer science or related engineering field
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively in English over email, chat, video or voice calls and in-person
  • Motivated and able to troubleshoot from kernel to web, and willing to ask others when appropriate
  • A willingness to be flexible and able to learn new things quickly
  • Be inspired by the needs of fast-changing environments
  • Happy to work within distributed teams
  • Be passionate and familiarized about open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian

Responsibilities

Manage our third-party (providers) and customer assessment processes and tools, maintain our Information Security Management System (ISMS), and support security audits such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and TISAX Lv3, along with the risk management process. You will interact with external parties and with internal teams including Engineering, Legal, Product Management, HR, Finance, Sales, IT, and InfoSec. You will act as the GRC liaison, monitor provider and policy compliance, and create InfoSec training and awareness materials.

Key Activities And Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a formal set of Information Security policies, procedures, and standards according to ISO/IEC 27001:2013.
  • Conduct and complete an annual review of the company's information security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Oversee and/or assist in ongoing assessments testing the company's security procedures, mechanisms, and controls.
  • Serve as a liaison for the implementation of security controls derived from policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Perform and manage the Vendor Security Assessment process before contracting services or applications with third parties.
  • Perform periodic Risk Assessment reviews and coordinate remediation with the corresponding Data Owners.
  • Support the coordination of security audits such as ISO 27001, SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits, including preparing meetings, communicating with auditors and internal stakeholders, and reviewing controls and evidence accuracy.
  • Assist in the evaluation and settings of physical security for company sites.
  • Oversee the development of a Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Develop a set of Performance Indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of security standards and controls.
  • Create training materials and ensure compliance through training/awareness programs and periodic security audits (internal and external).
  • Provide development guidance and assistance in identifying, implementing, and maintaining organization privacy policies and procedures in coordination with the Data Privacy team.
  • Manage the Customer Security Assessments by collaborating with Sales, Customer Success and Legal to review agreements with customers, respond to questionnaires, or share compliance documentation to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
Required Education / Aptitudes / Qualifications
  • At least 3 years in a similar role.
  • ISO/IEC 27001, CISSP, CISA, or other security certifications desired.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Jira usage knowledge.
  • Spoken and written English proficiency.
  • Practical experience in audit and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of Information Security and Privacy related laws and regulations in the US and EU.
  • Knowledge of other information security standards beyond ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and SOC 1 and SOC 2 (e.g., NIST 800-53, CIS Controls), and regulations related to information security and data privacy (GDPR, FERPA, CCPA), including risk identification and analysis.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.

  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
  • Asset: Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities. Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries.
  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills in English.

  • Apply your knowledge of security, bot management, and fraud prevention to assist customers and optimize product performance
  • Quickly learn and adapt to our evolving product suite, staying up-to-date with new features and changes, while providing feedback from a developer's perspective
  • Mentor and support other Support Engineers, sharing your software engineering knowledge to enhance the team's technical capabilities
  • Develop and improve support processes, tools, and documentation, potentially creating scripts or tools to automate and streamline support tasks
  • Engage with customers in a positive and proactive manner, building strong relationships and ensuring their success with our products
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering or a technical support role with a strong engineering focus
  • Solid background in software development is essential for this role
  • Proficiency in backend and frontend development technologies, such as Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and related frameworks
  • Experience with security principles, bot management strategies, and fraud detection/prevention techniques
  • Ability to quickly understand and adapt to new technologies and products
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and support tools; experience with automation and scripting is a plus
  • A customer-centric mindset with a commitment to providing exceptional service
Nice to have
  • Strong proficiency in SQL; experience with databases like ClickHouse or tools like Apache Superset is a plus
  • Experience working with enterprise clients is a plus

Learning and Development Specialist, E-Learning and LMS

The Learning and Development Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and optimization of Xometry's e-learning content and Learning Management System (LMS). This role will play a critical part in ensuring a seamless and effective learning experience for all staff and customers through the support of onboarding, ongoing professional development, and external facing training. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise in LMS administration, demonstrated development of e-learning content, and excellent communication and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • E-learning Content Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and L&D team members to create, review, update, and ensure the accuracy of existing and new e-learning content. Assist in the testing and quality assurance of new e-learning courses and modules prior to deployment. Manage the content lifecycle, including version control, archiving, and retirement of outdated materials.
  • LMS Administration & Management: Serve as the primary administrator for the company's Learning Management System (Percipio). Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions; troubleshoot access issues. Upload, organize, and publish e-learning courses, modules, and learning paths. Create and manage learning assignments, notifications, and completion tracking. Monitor LMS performance, identify and resolve technical issues, and provide technical support to users. Stay up-to-date on LMS features and best practices, recommending and implementing improvements. Generate and analyze reports on learning activity, course completion, and program effectiveness.
  • Learning Program Support: Support the deployment of new learning initiatives and programs within the LMS and across the organization. Assist in the creation of engaging learning pathways and user-friendly navigation within the LMS. Provide support for virtual instructor-led training (VILT) sessions, including scheduling, platform setup, and participant management. Respond to employee inquiries regarding learning resources and LMS functionality.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with HR Business Partners, department leaders, and subject matter experts to understand learning needs. Communicate effectively with employees regarding new learning opportunities and LMS updates. Participate in special projects as assigned by the Head of L&D or HR Leadership.
Qualifications
  • This role requires working core aligned hours to US Eastern Time.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Advanced English level.
  • 3+ years of experience in Learning & Development, with a strong focus on LMS administration and e-learning content management.
  • Proven experience as an administrator for LMS.
  • Strong understanding of e-learning standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent technical aptitude and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot LMS and e-learning issues effectively.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A passion for learning and development and a commitment to employee growth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Captivate).
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles for e-learning content.
  • Experience in a high-growth technology or manufacturing company.
