Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Backend Shopify Developer to join our growing digital agency team. This permanent position offers flexible growth from part-time to full-time based on workload and performance. You'll manage the technical backend operations of multiple Shopify stores, working with both headless storefronts and fully managed Shopify sites.

This role is perfect for a Shopify specialist who enjoys technical e-commerce challenges, staying current with platform updates, and optimizing store performance.

Core Responsibilities

Template Development & Store Management

• Build and customize Shopify templates using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Perform routine updates, security patches, and platform optimizations
• Manage store settings for performance, SEO, and user experience
• Handle bulk product imports, metafield management, and catalog organization
• Optimize template code for fast loading times and improved user experience

App Integration & API Management

• Research, evaluate, and integrate third-party apps to extend store functionality
• Build custom integrations using Shopify's REST and GraphQL APIs
• Configure apps for optimal performance and troubleshoot integration issues
• Maintain clear documentation of all integrations and customizations

Shopify Flow & Automation

• Build automated workflows using Shopify Flow to streamline store operations
• Create automated solutions for inventory management, customer communications, and order processing
• Monitor automation performance and optimize workflows for efficiency

Checkout Optimization

• Analyze checkout performance and identify improvement opportunities
• Implement changes to reduce cart abandonment and improve conversion rates
• Configure payment gateways and checkout extensions
• Set up A/B testing to improve checkout performance

Platform Updates & Future-Proofing

• Stay current with Shopify's latest features, updates, and best practices
• Evaluate new features for client benefit and implementation feasibility
• Ensure all customizations remain compatible with platform updates
• Proactively recommend improvements based on new platform capabilities

Required Technical Skills

Shopify Platform Expertise

• 3+ years of Shopify development and store management experience
• Advanced proficiency in Shopify's Liquid templating language
• Strong experience with REST Admin API and GraphQL Storefront API
• Experience with Shopify app development and private app creation
• Understanding of Shopify Plus features and enterprise requirements

Development Technologies

• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design principles
• Git workflow and collaborative development practices
• RESTful APIs, JSON handling, and third-party service integration
• Understanding of data structures, metafields, and data relationships
• Site speed optimization and Core Web Vitals experience

E-commerce Specialization

• Experience working with headless Shopify implementations
• Understanding of e-commerce conversion optimization principles
• Knowledge of technical SEO for e-commerce platforms
• Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and conversion tracking setup
• Experience managing multiple Shopify stores and environments

Preferred Experience

• Advanced GraphQL query optimization and schema understanding
